CUGI maintains a leading edge in the genomics and bioinformatics revolution and offers the development and distribution of high quality genomic and bioinformatic tools and services for the life science community. The Institute provides expertise in areas that focus on the discovery and functional analysis of important genes, networks, and genomic regions from plants, animals, fungi, microbes and humans using an integrated suite of specialized biological tools. We work with our collaborators and clients in the following ways:
  • CUGI researchers provide intellectual contribution as PI, Co-PI, Senior Staff or Key Personnel on research grants.
  • Genomic and Bioinformatics services provided through consultation and formal service agreement
  • Customers may order services and products online including all forms of library production, clones, filters, whole libraries, as well as DNA sequencing and fingerprinting. CUGI specializes in virtually any project size from sample input to interpretative analysis

Rainbow Trout Physical Map - 3rd Generation

Dr. Yniv Palti, a research geneticist at the USDA ARS National Center for Cool and Cold Water Aquaculture in Leetown, WV and Dr. Ming-Cheng Luo from the University of California, Davis, produced the third version of the physical map of the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) genome. The physical map is integrated with the genetic map through microsatellite markers that were isolated from the physical map BACs. The integrated genetic and physical map was produced in collaboration with Dr. Carine Genet at INRA, France.

The project has led to an integrated genetic and physical map, which was produced in collaboration with Dr. Carine Genet at INRA, France. The genomic resources in this economically important aquaculture species will ultimately help realize genetically improved strains of fish.
