Metasequoia RNA-Seq

metaleaf.jpeg
Dr. Haiying Liang at Clemson University produced the first transcriptome data for Metasequoia glyptostroboides, also known as dawn redwood or Chinese redwood. To enable the elucidation of reproductive genes from this rare relict species, four libraries were created:
  • vegetative and reproductive (female) bud differentiation tissue (August/September collection)
  • early bud development tissue (August/September collection)
  • vegetative bud tissue (March collection)
  • reproductive female bud tissue (March collection)
The reads were quality filtered, and rRNA sequences were removed. An assembly was created with Newbler. This assembly was mined for SSRs and SNPs.
